Comparing the votes of men and women ...

IN THE HOUSE:

There are a total of 435 members in the house. 134 of them voted "nay" -- that is about 30%.

There are about 63 women in the house. 33 of them voted "nay" -- that is 52%.*

These percentages suggest to me that congresswomen are either more courageous or more peaceful, perhaps both, than congressmen. What do you think?

* These figures may not be absolutely accurate, because we decided if the voter was a man or a woman by their name and some names are undecipherable in this regard.

IN THE SENATE:

There are 13 women in the senate -- 4 of these (30%) voted nay.

There are 87 men in the senate -- 19 of these (21%) voted nay.

Questions -- (1) Are these differences statistically significant? (2) Do they tell us anything about the differences between men and women elected officials.
